In MONICA, wearable technologies are used to monitor and manage crowds at events and add value to the visitor’s experience. In this video, you can see Arjen Schoneveld from Dexels explain two kinds of smart wristbands which are used by the project.

The staff wristband makes it possible to locate staff members in real time and view their positions on a map. If there is an incident, the staff can press a button on the wristband to ask for assistance and thereby automatically call upon the nearest available colleague.

The crowd wristband tracks people anonymously for the creation of crowd heat maps, making it possible for security staff to identify problems and if necessary, redirect people to safer spots. The wristband can also work as the entrance ticket and payment device and let the concert goer become part of the light show by activating the two LED lights on the wristband.
